چکیده

conclusions rtesd in the prone position is safe and presents a feasible alternative for management of large rectal tumors. we also anticipate the technique to further improve with the advancement of robotic technology. introduction endoscopic submucosal dissection (esd) of large tumors of the rectum is particularly challenging using colonoscopy or with laparoscopic instruments. more recently robotic assisted technique has been described. case presentation we describe the first reported case of robotic transanal endoscopic submucosal dissection (rtesd) in australia for a large circumferential laterally spreading tumor of the rectum using the da vinci® si system with the patient in the prone position. the case took 145 minutes and the authors found good manoeuvrability due to the intuitive nature of the robot’s endowristed miniaturised graspers. the prone position facilitated robot docking and reduced the external robotic arm clashing. this procedure was safely performed and the patient was discharged the following day. colonoscopic follow up to one year revealed no recurrence of disease.

Cost comparison between endoscopic submucosal dissection and transanal endoscopic microsurgery for the treatment of rectal tumors

PURPOSE To compare medical costs of endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) and transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEM) for the treatment of rectal tumors. METHODS The records of 80 patients who underwent ESD and 32 who underwent TEM for the treatment of rectal tumors were collected. Factors compared in the two groups included patient age, sex and clinical characteristics, as well as hospital ...

Endoscopic submucosal dissection versus transanal local excision for rectal carcinoid: a comparative study

AIM The aim of this study is to compare the short-term clinical outcomes between endoscopic submucosal dissection and transanal local excision for rectal carcinoid tumors. METHODS Between 2007 and 2012, 31 patients with rectal carcinoid underwent endoscopic submucosal dissection at our hospital. They were compared with a matched cohort of 23 patients who underwent transanal local excision for...

Robotic Enucleation of an Esophageal Submucosal Tumor in the Prone Position

Background: Esophageal submucosal gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are rare. Resection is indicated due to their malignant potential. Case Description: A 76-year-old woman complained of mild dysphagia. A submucosal tumor of the lower thoracic esophagus was found endoscopically. Computed tomography (CT) scan revealed a 40-mm anterolateral submucosal tumor. Endoscopic ultrasound revealed a...

Circumferential rectal laterally spreading tumor resected by endoscopic submucosal dissection in a Western center.

A 78-year-old patient without relevant past medical history underwent colonoscopy for chronic diarrhea. Examination identified a laterally spreading tumor (LST), mixed-granular-type (nodules up to 1 cm) in the rectum, from the pectin line to the rectosigmoid transition. The LST covered 100% of the circumference of this segment (▶Fig. 1). Endoscopic evaluation was compatible with an adenomatous ...

Local recurrence after rectal endoscopic submucosal dissection: a case of tumor cell implantation

We report a case of local recurrence of cancer after rectal endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). A 52-year-old male underwent a curative resection with ESD for rectal intramucosal cancer. Seventy-four months after ESD, surveillance colonoscopy showed an elevated lesion on the ESD scar, suspicious of a recurrence. The patient subsequently underwent a low anterior resection (intersphincteric) ...

Endoscopic submucosal dissection with a ligation device for the treatment of rectal carcinoid tumor.

tumor, which is occasionally found during screening colonoscopy. Tumors less than 1 cm in diameter and limited in depth to the submucosal layer can be managed by endoscopic treatment, several types of which have been reported for rectal carcinoid tumor [1,2]. Because carcinoid tumor extends to the submucosal layer, simple endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) will often leave tumor involvement in ...
